A Nakuru Court has sentenced a man for three years or a fine of Sh250,000 for selling samosas made of cat meat to unsuspecting residents.
James Mukangi Kimani pleaded guilty to the charge of slaughtering an animal (cat) for human consumption in contravention of the Food, Drugs and Chemical Substance act. He was also charged with the offence of slaughtering an animal at a designated place contrary to Regulation of the Meat Control Act.
Kimani, who sells samosas and mtura (African sausage) was on Sunday afternoon caught skinning a cat at an open ground opposite the Provincial General Hospital, Nakuru.
Kimani further revealed in court that he has killed over a thousand cats and sold each at Sh 500 bob.
Unscrupulous business people have in the past used dog, cat and donkey meats for samosas, which they sell to unsuspecting consumers.
