Interior CS, Joseph Nkaissery has assured Kenyans that the government is in control of the security crisis in Laikipia County, that has seen herders invade private ranches.

Nkaissery, who was speaking during a press conference yesterday said that the police have already arrested 379 illegal grazers who had encroached on private ranches.

“The government has taken appropriate action to ensure illegal grazers are removed and to keep raiders away from private farms and ranches,” he said adding that police reservists will be recruited to support members of the  National Police Service (NPS) currently deployed to Laikipia.

Nkaissery’s remarks comes in the wake of the murder of a British owner of Sosian ranch co-owner Tristan Voorspuy, whose bullet riddled body was discovered a few meters from his ranch over the weekend. 

The CS also accused local political leaders of fanning the crisis in Laikipia by making inflammatory statements and inciting locals to illegally occupy private property, warning that anyone found guilty of the vice will face the law.

Muhoro Leads Team to Investigate Ranchers Murder

Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ndegwa Muhoro has lead a team of detectives in the county to probe the murder of Tristan Voorspuy.

“Security agencies are on high alert and we have launched a probe into those behind the invasions of private ranches and conservancies,” said Mr Muhoro.
