Civil servants will soon be enjoying higher salaries from July 1, 2017, following a salary review by the Salaries and Remuneration Committee (SRC).
Under the new structure, where jobs have been graded in 19 categories, the lowest employee (grade B1) will earn a minimum of Sh14, 442 while the highest paid civil servant in E4 will pocket a starting salary of Sh292, 765 a month up from Sh11, 553 and Sh576, 120 respectively.
According to SRC the harmonized salary structures, which was adopted from the Paterson Job Evaluation philosophy, will help bridge the gap between the highest and lowest-paid civil servants.
“The commission has developed a harmonised salary structure that is intended to minimize disparities in the public service within the framework of fiscal affordability and sustainability, while at the same time reflecting the relative worth of a job.” said SRC chair, Sarah Serem.
The structure will be implemented in four annual equal phases with effect from July 1, 2017.
