There’s mounting tension in the country following news that a woman, exhibiting Ebola symptoms has been admitted in Kericho Referral Hospital.
The woman is said to have traveled through the Malaba border from Uganda to visit her spouse.
“This evening a patient presenting symptoms similar to those exhibited by Ebola patients was admitted Kericho Referral Hospital. The patient has been placed in isolation and blood samples sent to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for further analysis,” a letter from the Kericho county government reads in part.
Kenya has been on high alert since last week after Ebola cases were reported in neighbouring Uganda.
Uganda’s health ministry announced three cases of Ebola. The three are relatives and had tested positive for the virus after a visit to neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo where more than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been registered.
One of the patients, a five-year-old boy died.
Kenya’s ministry of health has said that it remains committed to ensuring that relevant surveillance measures are in place to safeguard the health of all Kenyans.
