Lupita’s homecoming has been very much anticipated in the country after she became a Hollywood star.
News of her finally visiting Kenya in July, just like Obama should therefore have really excited Kenyans however, Lupita is now causing a stir on social media, actually trending on Twitter following the circulation of a poster to a dinner event titled; An Evening With Lupita.
The exclusive event, whose proceeds are said to go to the aid of protection of elephants, is scheduled to go down on the 2nd of July at the Luxurious Vila Rosa Kempinski hotel in Nairobi and the tickets are going for sh 10,000.
Now Kenyans, who have either purposely or just out of sheer ignorance overlooked the good cause behind Lupita’s dinner are not amused with the sh 10,000 charges and are finding it hard to understand they will have to cough with so much just to dine with her.
Below are some of the views shared on social media;
“My people suffer for lack of knowledge”. I am sure most of you who are angry about “Dine with Lupita for Ksh. 10,000″ did not even know why the 10k was being paid. This is ‘an exclusive gala event in aid of the protection of elephants”. This is a charity event. You are not paying Lupita the 10k to see her, sawa? So stop being ignorant and pull down your rants.” Posted Fredrick Ombako on Facebook.
MasterSteve: The painful part is that they attach Lupita with Saving the Elephants…you are being robbed by force…
CarolRadull: Then they really should not have title the event: “An Evening with Lupita.” Just mention her as guest of honour.
CikuMuiruri: I get confused sometimes by Kenyans. You are not paying 10k to meet @Lupita_Nyongo. You are donating 10k FOR the conservation of elephants.
BettyWaitherero: Wait. Si Lupita is an actress? Will she be acting… whats the 10k for?
OliverMathenge™: Eeeeh. Ati mnalipa 10K to have dinner with Lupita? Badala muwekee wazazi stima with the new subsidized KPLC payments.
