University of Nairobi Ranked Among Top 20 African Universities

The University of Nairobi (UON) has once again been ranked among the top 20 universities in Africa, according to the latest standings by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

UON, which was ranked at position 13 in the top 200 list in the new ranking of universities in Africa, is the only Kenyan university that made it to the top 30, followed by Egerton University at position 37.

Only eight Kenyan universities made it to the top 200 list in the new ranking of universities in Africa.

The University of Cape Town ranked number one, followed by Stellenbosch University, Cairo University, University of KwaZulu Natal and University of Johannesburg.

Uganda’s Makerere university ranked position 14 after the University of Nairobi

Top Universities in Kenya

Kenyatta University ranked 40, Moi University 50 and Jomo Kenyatta University 51, Maseno University 157, Strathmore University 168, Masinde Muliro 218.

Under the Webometrics Ranking, universities are assessed in three critical categories of impact, openness and excellence. The primary objective of the ranking Web is to promote Open Access to the knowledge generated by the University.

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.
