RAIN IN SPAIN AS THE REIGN ENDS IN PAIN

spain chileGROUP B SPAIN 0-2 CHILE

It’s all over for Spain; the 2010 World Cup champions after the team put up a bleak performance against a pacy Chile side, who ensured Spain got eliminated from the competition by beating them two goals.

The Spain boss, Vicent Del Bosque, could only watch in disbelief in the technical area like a captain of a sinking ship, as his ‘Tiki Taka’ tactics failed to bear any fruit.

Spain is yet to score a goal from open play in this season’s tournament and it made history after becoming the first defending champions of the World Cup to be eliminated in the group stages after being beaten two games in a row.

They sit bottom of the table with zero points and negative six goal difference.

AFRICAN LIONS SEND HOME

GROUP A

CROATIA 4-0 CAMEROON

The game which can simply be described as a one sided affair saw the return of Croatia’s target man Mario Mandzukic, who scored a brace to give his team hopes of qualifying to the last 16 round.

Indiscipline was the order of the day from the former African Champions as Alex Song was red carded just before half time after punching M. Mandzukic on the back. Frustration piled up and an angry Assou Ekotto head-butted his own team mate Moukandjo, before Webo came in to separate the two.

Quite a disgraceful game for Cameroon who bow out of the competition. Their skipper, Samuel Etoo did not play because of an injury as reported.

GROUP B

NETHERLANDS 3-2 AUSTRALIA

Netherlands came down from 2-1 to claim a hard-fought victory of 3-2 over Australia. Robben opened the scoring with Tim Cahill netting a stunning volley 70 seconds later, before Australia took the lead from M. Jedinak penalty.

Van Persie leveled soon after before M. Depay scored the winning goal 10mins later. Both Cahill and Van Persie will miss their last match in group B after collecting 2 yellow cards.
