Germany: 2014 FIFA World Cup Winners

Germany became four time world champions after drowning Argentina’s dreams of winning their 3rd World Cup trophy, courtesy of a goal that came deep in extra time from super sub Mario Gotze.

German coach tactics seems to have worked well when he brought in the pacy Chelsea winger A. Schurrle who connected well with M. Gotze to give Germany the important goal, 7 minutes before the end of the game.

Messi, the Argentina’s skipper was frustrated for failing to lift the cup. The player has won everything a football player could wish but only the World Cup trophy keeps evading him. He was however consoled with the Golden Ball award of the tournament which many football pundits disagreed. Most of them were for Dutch forward Arjen Robben or Colombia’s James Rodrigues. Neuer was given the Golden Glove for the most clean sheet in the tournament

Neuer 7– Didnt have much to do though made a few saves. Lahm 8 (Captain) – Fantastic led by example and made timed tackles. Boateng 9– Was really superb throughout the game as the backbone of the German defense. Hummels 5 – Had an average day in the office. Howedes 6– Not a very good day for him but would have been the hero if his header was on target. Schwensteiger 9– Probably the best player on the pitch. Neautralized most Argentina attack from the middle of the pack. Kramer 5– another average display. Muller 7– great work rate but forgot his scoring boots at home. Kroos 6– played his part but was silent in the game. Ozil 7.5– As usual very creative and tried to make space and create chances. Klose 5– Very little impact.

Romero 8.5– Very good stopper, maybe he deserved much more out of this tournament. He did his best to keep his team in the game. Zabaleta 8.5– His experience as fullback was tasted. Attacked and defended well. Demichelis and Garay 6– The two Center Backs complimented and covered for each other well. Rojo 7– Tried his best to keep Muller silent. Mascherano 8– The midfield general had a great game. Biglia 6.5– Link man between the defensive and forward player. Perez 6– He played his part but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough. Messi 7.5, great pace and quick foot works that troubled the German defense. Higuain 4.5– Maybe the flop of the game. Lost a clear opportunity that would have changed the whole game.
