Kenya’s seasoned TV and film video editor, Jimmy Kimaita, has challenged film makers in the country’s TV and film industry to go out of their comfort zones and produce quality content.
Jimmy a former editor at Citizen TV, refutes the allegations that there are no refined editors in Kenya and blames the filmmakers for producing substandard productions and hoping to fix the errors through editing. Well, seeing is somehow believing and Jimmy has even gone ahead and created an epic trailer, comprising top 20 world acclaimed movies into one epic preview in just 124 seconds, just to prove his point.
“As long as during the pre-production things are done perfectly, then the editing will work wonders. But what we witness here in most access is people compromising on quality in order to save money and then expect the editor to miraculously produce quality in the end. I have created this trailer to prove that with quality production, an editor can do wonders,” Jimmy says.
A video editor is usually the unspoken technical hero in a TV or video production, they are the people who will sift through raw recorded footage and assemble it into a finished product that’s suitable for broadcasting. They can build or ruin a production.
Among the productions the former editor has edited is Straight Up on KTN and the TV series Ajabu, which now airs on DSTV’s Maisha Magic channel.
