Kenya’s FBI dance group is raising the country’s flag high on international dance platforms.
After being crowned winners of the world dance competition Faites Danser Le Monde in France on Thursday, where the group was the only dance crew from Africa, FBI is set to grace the Hip Hop World Championships in San Diego, CA.
The “Olympics of Hip Hop” is expected to draw over 3,500 dancers from more than 50 nations and according to FBI, San Diego is the ultimate destination for any dancer in the world and the crew is excited to be the only team representing Kenya.
Garissa University Terror Attack
During the “Faites Danser Le Monde” competition in France, FBI dancers presented an emotive dance to tell the story of the Garissa University terror attack, an incredibly moving piece that reduced the audience to tears.
FBI dance group was formed in 2006 by a group of young boys from Majengo, who were then students at Jamhuri High School. The group maintains that it now comprises of 10 members but the main are seven, namely; Fredrick Milanya, Ramadhan Nyachio, Ezra Njagi, Kennedy Mutembei, Justus Mtua, Simon Janaj and the only girl in the team Kibibi Tajiri.
What started as a hobby has now blossomed to a full-time career for the dancers who are now the most sought are after dance group both in the local entertainment and corporate scene where the group pockets an average of Sh70,000 per show.
