Tv journalist Jackie Maribe has been declared mentally fit to stand for trial.
The High court had on Tuesday ordered that Maribe undergoes a mental test and at the same time Justice Jessie Lesiit asked that she be remanded at the Lang’ata Women’s prison pending the hearing of the Monica Kimani murder case on Monday.
According to Maribe’s lawyer Katwa Kigen, the mental assessment was done on Thursday and “as expected showed that she is fit to stand trial”.
Her fiancée Jowie (co-accused) was detained at Industrial Area Remand Prison until Monday when they will be produced in court to face charges.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Tuesday directed that Jackie Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu “Jowie” be charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.
Jackie Maribe and Jowie have been in detention for the last one week pending investigations into the brutal murder of 29-year-old Monica Kimani who was murdered in her Kilimani apartment.
BRIAN KASAINE FREED
Maribe’s neighbor and Jowie’s friend, Brian Kasaine, who had also been arrested over the Monica Kimani Murder was freed on Thursday after he struck a deal with the police that will see him become a prosecution witness.
Jowie reportedly used Kassaine’s gun to shoot himself in Maribe’s apartment.
Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku ordered Kassaine to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) every Thursday for two months to facilitate the investigation.
