Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha has today launched the national policy on the new Competency-based system of education even as KNUT officials snubbed the event.

Magoha maintained that the government is not backing down on the implementation of the new curriculum.

“It’s launch today, therefore, is the clearest indication yet that the Government of the Republic of Kenya is not going back on the implementation of the competency-based curriculum. The rollout is unstoppable; we will deal with problems as they emerge.” Prof Magoha said.

The CS also said that the ministry has trained 91,000 teachers on the Competency-based curriculum (CBC) and reports indicate that the teachers are better prepared to deliver adding that more than 12 million competence-based books have already been distributed to schools and the process is ongoing.

Staff Changes

Prof. George Magoha further announced that since he took office at the Education ministry,  he had made critical staff changes to enable him to deliver.

KNUT OPPOSES NEW CURRICULUM ROLLOUT

The National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has been opposed to the CBC implementation.

Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion said the union will not participate in the exercise saying it’s “flawed, lacks legitimacy and was rolled out without public participation as is required by the Constitution.
