President Uhuru Kenyatta has banned travel in and out of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area and the counties of Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa for the next 21 days, in the latest move aimed at mitigating against the adverse effects of the global Coronavirus pandemic.

The cessation of movement restricts movement of people in and out of the above counties  but allows residents within the counties to carry on with their day to activities in the confines of the national curfew period of between 7pm and 5am .

Cessation of movement in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area took effect on Monday 7pm and the police already set up roadblocks last night to restrict movement.

The cessation of movement in Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa counties it will be effected from Wednesday 8,2019.

Upcountry Travel Restricted

This means that Nairobians who have been migrating to the villages in fear of COVID-19 will no longer be able to do so and those who had travelled out of the city will not be able to gain entry for the next 21 days.

President Uhuru Kenyatta further stated that he will not hesitate to come up with more drastic measures to battle the spread of corona virus and called on Kenyans to strictly adhere to protocols set out by the Ministry of health so as to stem the spread of Corona virus in the country.

Face Masks

President Kenyatta underscored regular washing of hands with soap, wearing of masks and social distancing as some of the key protocols that Kenyans need to follow strictly in order to limit the spread of the respiratory illness.

“We are asking Kenyans to wash their hands and use the sanitizers which the Government is distributing for free to help curb the spread of Corona Virus pandemic” said President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Anyone stepping out in public will now be mandated to wear a face mask.
