Kijabe Dam disaster,Mai Mahiu

At least 40 people are feared dead in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha after a dam at old Kijabe burst sweeping off a village down the valley.

The affected area is reportedly known as Kamuchiri Village.

Deputy County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu confirmed the incident saying search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Kijabe bridge, linking the town to Maai Mahiu road has also been swept away by raging floods, paralysing transport.

The countrywide doctor’s strike is still ongoing and with the ongoing floods disaster in the country, access to healthcare will be a challenge.
