Suspected Al shaabab gunmen attacked two police camps in an overnight raid at Fino Ward in Lafey, Mandera County .

A number of police officers and reservists are feared dead in the attack that ensued at about 1 am on Friday.

Lafey Deputy County Commissioner Eric Oronyi has confirmed the attacks although he could not confirm if there were police officers killed in the raid, citing communication challenges.

“Communication was cut off since the attackers first destroyed a Safaricom mast, but more officers have been sent to the scene” said Oronyi.
