Kisumu residents have accused police of killing two civilians yesterday, during the anti-IEBC protests. Photos of the bodies, which lay on the streets with blood gushing wounds spread on social media evoking a public criticism although opinions on the incident remained divided with some blaming the police for using force while others blamed the victims and the demonstrators at large for putting their lives on the line.

17 other people were injured with about 12 nursing gunshot wounds and property destroyed in Kisumu Town during demonstrations against the electoral commission. Among the injured was four- year-old Jeremy Otieno, who was shot in the back by a stray bullet while sleeping in his family’s single-room iron sheet-house in Kisumu’s Ogango Estate .

Doctors at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital later successfully removed the bullet. In Nairobi, the protest was peaceful for the first time since CORD kicked off the weekly anti-IEBC demos as the police did not tear gas the demonstrators this time round and only observed them from a distance as they made their way to anniversary towers, where the IEBC offices are located, through Kenyatta Avenue, Moi Avenue, University Way through to Uhuru Highway ending the protests at Uhuru Park where they were addressed by their leaders.

The demonstrators were led by CORD leader Raila odinga, Senators Moses Wetangula, James Orengo, Bonny Khalwale and Nick Salat of KANU.

“We are peaceful people and we have proven that today,” Wetangula Said. The leaders want the IEBC commissioners to be sent home and a new electoral body that can inspire public confidence established before 2017. They are also efficient voter registration across all parts of the country and issuance of Identity Cards.

Raila Odinga, while addressing his supporters at Uhuru Park, warned that CORD will protest for two days in a week, if the Government fails to select a special team for the proposed dialogue on the ongoing IEBC stalemate. It is just a matter of time before the IEBC commissioners go…we respect the Government, but they must listen to us,” Odinga asserted.
