Africa Cup of Nations Draw creates a ‘Group of Death’. Four potential winners are in the same qualifying group: Group C.
The draw for the 2015 African Cup of Nations, which will be held in Equatorial Guinea where 16 African teams will be battling out for the coveted trophy, has thrown out one of the toughest qualifying groups ever seen in the competition. This time round, Group C carries the ‘Group of Death’ title as it consists of Ghana, Senegal, South Africa and Algeria who are all potential winners.
The last winners, Nigeria, are the most notable absentee with the other big name absentee being Egypt.
Though Senegal have up to seven players who play in the English Premier League, more than any other participating team in the competition, including Papiss Cisse (Newcastle) and Mame Biram Diouf (Stoke City), they are ironically the outsiders in Group C. This is despite that much is still expected of them.
Ghana who are four time winners of the tournament need to up their game and prove themselves again, since they haven’t won the trophy in 33 years and in the 2014 World Cup failed to repeat their 2010 World Cup performance where they reached the quarter finals. They have recently appointed former Chelsea boss Avram Grant as their new coach and Africa will be waiting to see the outcome of the changes.
