Lupita named the most beautiful person of 2014

Just two months after being listed among the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2014 by AskMen a popular lifestyle site in the UK for men, Kenya’s actress Lupita Nyong’o has been named the most beautiful person in 2014 by People’s Magazine, a weekly American magazine of celebrity and human-interest stories which is reported to have the largest audience of any American magazine.

In a breathtaking head shot on the cover of the magazine, the 12 Years a Slave break out star who made history after she scooped an Oscar for best supporting actress, appears as glamorous as always, stunning and not forgetting the enchanting smile that completes the look in just one word; beautiful.

“It was exciting and just a major, major compliment,” said Lupita over an interview with the People Magazineadding that she was especially pleased for all the girls who would see her on that cover and feel a little more seen as well.

By gracing the cover of the magazine as the Most Beautiful Person for 2014, Lupita Nyong’o beats other Hollywood beauties like Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kim Kardashian.

INSPIRING BLACK GIRLS

With every height she scales, Lupita continues to inspire hundreds of girls especially in Africa and her signature quote (“No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid“) which she remarked during her acceptance speech when she won the Oscar in her supporting role in Steve Mac Queen’s 12 Years a Slave has become a daily inspirational quote for the youth at large.

The society has for a long time defined beauty based on complexion with ‘light skin’ being often regarded as the epitome of beauty. That explains why scores of women in Africa end up bleaching their skins so that they can attain the ‘fair skin complexion’.

Just like majority of dark skinned African girls who have struggled with the tone of their skin at one point in their life, Lupita has been there as well and in February this year during the luncheon of Black Women in Hollywood, she revealed in a moving speech how as a young girl she felt “unbeautiful,” when she was “teased and taunted for her night-shaded skin”. Since then, her fans in Kenya twisted her famous quote to read; “No matter your complexion, your beauty is valid.”
