‘Rising star’ rugby player Kilonzo shot and killed in Kasarani

Rugby Player, James Kilonzo, who plays for the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) was shot dead in Kasarani estate on Monday night by unknown assailants.

According to witness accounts, Kilonzo was shot by two armed men around 8pm at an Mpesa shop. The gunmen fled after the incident without stealing anything from the rugby player.

Kilonzo (23) was rushed to St Francis Community Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The Kenya Rugby club in a statement said they had lost a “rising star and devoted club member”.

“We are saddened to announce the untimely passing on of one of the pride, James Kilonzo, around 8.30pm last night (24/07/2017). Join us in mourning a rising star rugby player and devoted club member. We shall update you as further news reaches us,”

He had just returned from a tour of South Africa where he was named the ‘man of the tour.’
