Heavy rains and storms expected in Nairobi

The Kenya metrological department has issued an alert, warning of imminent heavy rains and storm over the weekend.

According to an advisory issued by the director of the metrological dept, the heavy rainfall of more than 50mm/24 hours is likely to occur on Saturday, Sunday and Monday around the coastal region, highlands west and east of the rift valley, Nairobi area and southern counties.

“Counties including Kwale, Taita Taveta (Taita hills and areas bordering Tanzania), Mombasa and southern parts of Kilifi are expected to be affected in the coast and south-east. Counties around Mt Kenya region, western parts of Narok, Migori, Nandi, Kericho, Kisii, Bomet, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Southern parts of Turkana and West Pokot will also be affected” the advisory reads in part.

Residents in all areas are advised to be on the lookout and avoid driving or wading through any fast moving waters.
