Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday inaugurated the seven-member tribunal appointed to probe the alleged misconduct of Supreme Court Judge Prof Jackton Ojwang.

The tribunal, which is led Court of Appeal Judge Alnashir Visram, was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week, following a recommendation by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The members are Justice (Rtd) Festus Azangalala, Ambrose Weda, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Lucy Kambuni, Sylvia Wanjiku Muchiri and Amina Abdalla.

The President appointed Paul Nyamodi (lead assisting counsel) and Stella Munyi (assisting counsel) for the tribunal.

The tribunal is mandated to scrutinize alleged misconduct, impropriety, conflict of interest and breach of the judicial code of conduct grounds raised by nine petitioners seeking the removal from office of the 69-year-old jurist.

Last month, Supreme Court upheld a tribunal ruling which found former High Court judge Joseph Mutava unfit to serve as a judicial officer.

Joseph Mutava was sacked over the controversial handling of businessman Kamlesh Pattni’s case.

The judge acquitted Pattni over the multi-billion shilling Goldenberg scandal in 2013.
