Brookside Dairy has rolled out a free milk programme for children in Primary schools, in a new campaign dubbed 3 Dairies a Day, which is aimed to promote the importance of dairy and dairy products in nutrition and health in children.

“Our school programme seeks to educate pupils and teachers on the importance of having dairy products as part of a healthy lifestyle and diet for effective learning,” said Brookside’s marketing director Oliver Mary during the launch.

The pilot will be done in 350 schools in Nairobi and will reportedly benefit over 200,000 pupils during the initial phase of the programme.

“It is important for kids to take at least 3 dairies a day so that they get the necessary nutrients to grow healthy and strong.” – Caroline Muchobia, Nutritionist at Brookside Dairy.

Education CS Amina Mohammed, who was speaking during the launch of the programme, said that she hopes more children across the country can benefit.

“The Dairy Fresh Program focuses on the idea that if one makes eating healthy foods a daily habit, the daily benefits will improve the quality of life. If a child eats a well-balanced diet, they can operate and learn at an optimal level. I hope the supporters of the program will plan to reach all school age children in Kenya so that all are informed,” she said.

Brookside has recently targeted children in advertising their milk and yoghurt, particularly the Ilara brand.

In December 2017, the dairy partnered with Walt Disney Productions to allow Brookside use its cartoon characters in their branding.
