Joho and Kingi: Governors get their bodyguards reinstated. The two coastal governors had their protection removed earlier.
The government has reinstated the bodyguards of Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi.
The bodyguards attached to the two governors were withdrawn last week on Friday in what was perceived as a desperate move by the government to “handle” the two governors, who have become the government’s most vocal critics.
The government however denied the claims saying the bodyguards of the two opposition Governors were withdrawn as part of a normal re-organization by Police Headquarters.
The Council of Governors (CoG) had resolved to sue Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, for withdrawing security services for two Governors, who had also threatened to sue the government if their security detail was not reinstated.
Prior to the withdrawal of his bodyguards, Governor Joho had given President Uhuru Kenyatta a dress down for taking credit and launching projects that had nothing to do with the jubilee government.
Kenyans would also take to social media under the #UhuruChallenge in mockery of the president for his recent spree of “launching projects” across the country in a move aimed at popularizing himself in opposition strongholds.
