IEBC Sets October 17 For Presidential Poll

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga will battle it out in a fresh presidential poll On October 17, in a ballot that the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has limited to the two candidates only.

IEBC resolved to limit the repeat presidential poll to Uhuru and Raila by basing the decision on the 2013 Supreme Court ruling that affirmed that a fresh election will only have the parties that are either petitioners or respondents in the case.

Six presidential candidates namely; Cyrus Jirongo, Ekuru Aukot, Abduba Dida, Joseph Nyagah, Michael Wainaina and Japhepth Kavinga, who had earlier contested for the presidency in the nullified elections will therefore not participate in the 17th October poll.

Kenyans will be going back to the ballot to elect their president following last week’s nullification of Uhuru’s victory in the August polls by the Supreme Court.

NASA REJECTS IEBC DATE FOR REPEAT BALLOT

The National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga has however rejected the October 17 date, set by the IEBC saying that the commission failed to consult him and other stakeholders as required by law.

NASA went ahead to accuse the IEBC of having been cornered by Jubilee and bulldozed by education CS Fred Matiang’i to settle for the October 17 date.

Odinga further demanded audit of technology used to transmit election results.
