Kenyans – 2017 Not A Good Year

With a prolonged and divisive election process, a lengthy drought and rising inflation, 2017 was not a good year for most Kenyans, a just released survey suggests.

Seventy-five percent of Kenyans questioned in a survey by Trends and Insights Kenya (TIFA) said 2017 was worse for them than 2016. Only 12 percent of those asked thought the last twelve months had been an improvement on 2016.

Leading the list of challenges that most concerned Kenyans in 2017 are the cost of living, political tensions, unemployment and the doctors strike.

TOP CONCERNS FOR KENYANS IN 2017

Cost of living                      64%

Political tensions                 52%

Unemployment                   25%

Doctors strike                     17%

Eighty-one percent of respondents said the cost of living had increased over the year; seventy-one percent said unemployment had risen; and sixty-one percent cited increasing ‘internal security’ as of great concern.

1,005 respondents over the age of 18 were questioned in the TIFA survey which was conducted between December 12 and 16.
