Tanzania’s President John Magufuli has sacked 9,932 civil servants for being in office with fake certificates after receiving a report on public servants certificates verification. Magufuli also ordered that this month’s salaries for the sacked employees should be withheld.

President Magufuli said the employees cannot perform if they don’t have the right qualifications and directed the Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, that posts which were being held by the fake certificates holders should be announced immediately.

“They are thieves like any other thieves. You cannot perform if you don’t have deserving qualifications,” said the President.

Magafuli is known as ‘the bulldozer’

Magufuli revealed that the government was losing TSH 19.84 million monthly to ghost workers.

Since being sworn in as Tanzania’s president on November 5, 2016, Magufuli “the bulldozer” as he’s been christened, has been cracking down on corruption on wasteful expenditure, an effort that has won him as many critics as admirers.

Critics have branded him as a dictatorial, intolerant, overbearing leader with strong-arm tactics. For most Kenyans, however, Magufuli seems to depict the kind of leadership needed in this country and as they keep tweeting on social media; “if only Tanzanias could give us Magufuli in exchange for five cabinet secretaries of their choice. We can even throw in our DP too if they want!”
