Muhoroni MP James Onyango K’Oyoo’s supporters are furious that his name did not appear on the list of candidates published by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) even though ODM declared in April that he had won the party’s nomination over his main rival Ayiecho Olweny.
Last Wednesday the High Court set aside an earlier decision by the Political Parties Tribunal confirming K’Oyoo as ODM’s candidate following the primaries in April and directed the party to nominate a candidate for Muhoroni within 72 hours, which it did, putting Olweny’s name on the list.
On Friday of last week K’Oyoo’s supporters blocked roads and lit fires to protest at his exclusion from the election for reasons which at present appear unclear. So far ODM’s Elections Board Chair Judy Pareno has been unavailable for comment. No doubt the matter will again be referred to the courts.
Whatever transpires you can bet we haven’t heard the last of Onyango K’Oyoo, a colourful character and one not unused to controversy.
