Former businessman and politician Simeon Nyachae, has died at the age of 88.
The former Cabinet Minister and Nyaribari Chache MP died on Monday at the Nairobi Hospital on Monday, February 1 where he had been undergoing treatment.
Nyachae served as a chief secretary and Head of Civil Service under former presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Arap Moi. He vied for presidency in 2002 but lost to former President Mwai Kibaki.
He retired from active politics in 2007.
Mzee Nyachae had five wives and 20 children. His son Charles Nyachae is the former chairman of the Committee of Implementation of the Constitution, who is currently a judge at the East African Court of Justice.

President Uhuru Kenyatta Mourns Former Minister Simeon Nyachae
President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned former cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae as an icon of Kenya’s progress through the years.
In a message of comfort to the family of the independence era provincial administrator, the President said the late Nyachae’s successful transition from public service to the world of business and politics was a demonstration that focus and hard work pays.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Mzee Simeon Nyachae, a distinguished son of Kenya, a friend and a man whose contribution to the making of the Kenyan nation will remain with us for eternity.
“Throughout his many years of service to the nation, right from his time in the provincial administration through to his transition into business and politics, Mzee Nyachae exhibited exemplary zeal to succeed and as he exits from this world, he leaves behind a rich legacy of success,” President Kenyatta eulogised.
