PRESIDENT KENYATTA’S CABINET RESHUFFLE – SHOCKS AND SURPRISES

President Kenyatta’s announcement of his new Cabinet took everyone by surprise both in its timing  and at the appointments and sackings that it entailed.

The President had said that he would name his new post-election Cabinet “in the coming weeks” but he bounced his colleagues, his opponents and the media with yesterday’s announcement.

KENYATTA’S CABINET – WHO’S IN…

The three new entrants to the Cabinet are Keriako Tobiko, who resigned yesterday as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take up the post, together with former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani and former Turkana Senator John Munyes.

KENYATTA’S CABINET – WHO STAYS…

President Kenyatta has retained the services of Najib Balala who keeps the Tourism docket, Henry Rotich (Treasury), Fred Matiang’i who takes over as CS Ministry of the Interior, Joe Mucheru (ICT), Charles Keter (Energy) and James Macharia (Transport).

KENYATTA’S CABINET – NO WOMEN!

Thirteen former Cabinet members have been sacked including former CS Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amina Mohamed and ALL four of the other female members of the previous Cabinet, Phyllis Kandie (Labour), Judi Wakungu (Environment), Raychelle Omamo (Defence) and Sicily Kariuki (Youth and Gender).

KENYATTA’S CABINET – WHO’S OUT…

In addition to the five women formerly in the Cabinet who have lost their posts, out go Adan Mohamed (was Industrialisation), Cleopa Maliu (Health), Eugene Wamalwa (Irrigation), Hassan Warlo (Sports and Culture), Willy Bett (Agriculture), Dan Kazungu (Mining), Jacob Kaimenti (Lands) and Mwangi Kiunjuri (Devolution).
